In society we are bogged by the tabloids that exploit women (mostly celebrities) on the covers of their magazines. You’ve seen them I am quite sure . . . They will photos of women living their daily lives, going makeup free and showing in blown-up graphic details under eye circles, wrinkles, and lax skin. No one (man or woman) should feel humiliated by someone because they are getting older. But I must say getting older doesn’t mean you have to AGE. Check out this interview with Charlize Theron and get her take on getting older. She says “I think, like many women, I was judgmental toward women as they aged,” she said. “Women, in our society, are compartmentalized so that we start to feel like we’re cut flowers and after a while we will wilt. I realize now that’s not the case — we can celebrate every age. That’s my encouragement to 20 year olds who are terrified of getting older: Don’t have a nervous breakdown and don’t hit the Chardonnay too hard. Getting older is not that bad. [Laughs] Actually, I’m a complete alcoholic, but, please, don’t worry. [Laughs again]” I love it!
As a licensed beauty therapist, I believe that Aging and getting older are not one in the same. We have no choice to get older as we live another year, but aging doesn’t have to be what it was perceived. With proper nutrition, great professional skincare and proper at-home products and care regimens, you don’t have to look like you are in your 40s 50s or 60s when you are whatever age you are. I have been blessed with good skin, but I must say that taking great care of my skin is key, and professional skincare is on the top of my list.
