Did you know that up to 60% of the human adult body is water? According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.
Drinking an adequate amount of water daily is essential to promote overall good health.
Here are some benefits of drinking water for our skin:
- Water detoxifies the body.
Water is probably the cheapest way of detoxifying our body. It flushes out all the toxins from our bodies. Water can also reduce pimples, scars, and marks.
- Water prevents premature water.
Staying hydrated keeps the skin’s elasticity. Heightened elasticity of the skin will result in lesser skin sagging and no premature appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
- Reduce puffiness.
When the skin looks puffy, it is retaining water to protect you from dehydration. Puffiness happens when you do not drink enough water. Staying hydrated will reduce swelling and puffiness in your face.
- No more itchy skin.
When your skin is dry, it causes flakes or cracks due to loss of moisture. It is essential to keep our skin hydrated by drinking enough water daily.
- Smaller pores.
Our pores get clogged and enlarged throughout the day. It is crucial to keep the balance of water and oil in our skin, and the result – smaller pores, decrease acne breakouts and reduces blemishes.
Now, the question is: How much water should I drink every day?
We’re told that we should drink at least eight glasses of water every day, but there is a simple way to calculate how much water you need daily. Divide your weight in half and drink that amount in ounces. In other words, if you weigh 150 pounds, you would want to consume around 75 ounces of water each day.
