BRUNCH. The word is a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch, and it is an absolute staple in the social life of every Southerner.

Every weekend in Charleston someone in our circle sends out a regular call to brunch, followed by a scramble to figure out where we’re eating, how many people are in, and, of course, whether or not bottomless mimosas are available.

In anticipation of the upcoming weekend, here is a list of 5 brunch spots in Charleston that every native and visitor must try.

  1. Only open on Saturdays and Sundays, Crave Kitchen and Cocktails are known for their mac n’ cheese so it is a must try. Nationally ranked as the top mac & cheese in america by: yahoo!, Travel & leisure magazine, eater, thrillist, the culture trip, and esquire magazine had this to say, “The most life-changing mac & cheese in the nation.” Enough said.

    1. Shem Creek Bar and Grill is a classic staple in the Lowcountry for a meal at any time of the day. Would suggest ordering the oysters. Definitely add the carafe of mimosas, your friends will thank you. The view alone here is worth the trip. Be sure to watch for dolphins!
